About Kaikoura

Kai (To Eat) Koura (Crayfish), is steeped in Maori history and tradition as well as a popular eco-tourism destination. This is a place where the snow-capped Kaikoura Mountain Range meets the Pacific Ocean. It is a stunning backdrop to a town where you can surf and ski in the same day. A town where you can Kayak without the crowds, Skydive, go Fishing, Horse Trek, or Hike the beautiful climb to the top of Mt Fyffe.

Kaikoura is also famous the world over as a feeding ground for a rich array of marine life including one of the grandest creatures on earth, the giant Sperm Whale. All year round the Kaikoura coastline is graced by the presence of these majestic and graceful masters of the deep ocean along with a myriad of other marine species. These include Dusky dolphins, New Zealand fur seals, and a diverse selection of marine birds including, of course, the Albatross, all of which makes Kaikoura an ideal meeting place for wildlife and people alike.

Where Are We?

We are in the historic part of the town, away from the busy SH1 Highway, yet only a 7 minute walk from the centre of town. We can arrange a courtesy pick-up from Kaikoura train station with Kaikoura Shuttles, or Atomic Shuttles bus service, who run up and down the East coast between Nelson and Christchurch will pick-up and drop-off from our door (assuming you book through them directly and not via Nakedbus - they will match Nakedbus prices). We are a short walk from where the other buses stop in town.
